Light control

Roller blinds have a slight practical edge for full blackout, since the fabric sits flat against the window with minimal folds for light to catch on. Roman blinds, particularly with a blackout lining, still perform very well — the difference is marginal once you add a quality lining.

Fabric choice

Roman blinds are traditionally made in heavier, more structured fabrics — the fold relies on the fabric holding its shape — which opens up a wide range of patterns, weaves and textures similar to curtain fabric.
